Our Best Summer Birthday Party Ideas

Grandma Sandy is on vacation, returning Wednesday, August 14. In the meantime, each week, we’ll feature a curated collection of the best of “Call Me Grandma!” In today’s post, we’re highlighting birthday party ideas for kids!

In our family, summer is birthday season. And quite rightly, too. According to U.S. birth data as reported by USA Today, the most common birthday month is August, followed by July.

Worldwide, the months of July, August, and September are the most typical birth months in the higher latitudes of the northern hemisphere; while in the lower latitudes of the southern hemisphere, the peak is October, November, and December.

Some Birthday Party Ideas

Just last week, I interviewed Jen Strobel, design department manager and events coordinator at Sloat Garden Center in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was looking for summer gardening ideas for kids. I learned that you can have a birthday party in their stores. At these planting parties, kids are given terracotta pots to paint, fill with dirt, and populate with plants to make a fairy garden.
